In December 2024 - January 2025 the Ministry of Health was tasked by the Government with consulting on whether there should be additional safety measures for puberty blockers, such as regulations under the Medicines Act.

Out@PSA, PSA Youth and the Te Whatu Ora Health sector committee collaborated on a submission, expressing concern that the consultation had sidelined experts in gender affirming care and was politicising clinical decisions that should be made by healthcare experts. It argued that the prescription of puberty blockers in New Zealand should continue to be up to prescribers' clinical judgement.

The submission also took the opportunity to voice the PSA's support for more public investment in the provision of gender affirming care within the public health system.
