Join us on Thursday 1 May for nationwide hui standing up for workers’ rights and our public health services, brought together by the NZCTU.
April 9, 2025
This May Day, working people are gathering across Aotearoa to stand up for workers’ rights and our public health system.
In October last year, more than 10,000 of us turned out to the first ever Fight Back Together hui, brought together by the NZCTU. We were part of a huge wave of resistance to this Government’s attacks on communities.
Now, it’s clear the coalition’s agenda is deeply unpopular. It’s an important time to keep the pressure on and celebrate the strength of our unions. That’s why on Thursday 1 May – International Workers’ Day – we're uniting again.
Join us at Maranga Ake events in town centres, and special Fight Back Together For Health events at hospitals.
These May Day hui are about standing up once more for workers’ rights. This year we also have a special focus on healthcare for all.
Fight Back Together For Health is about resisting callous attacks on public health. It’s about calling for the resources we need to make sure everyone’s looked after – including health workers themselves.
Everyone's invited – all PSA members, whānau, and community members. You’re welcome at whichever hui you choose to come to – whether it’s at a town centre or hospital.

Toitū Te Tiriti! How you can support the Hīkoi Mō Te Tiriti as a PSA member
A huge moment for Aotearoa is just around the corner. Here’s how our union is supporting the hīkoi, and how you can be involved.
Families across the country are facing a cost of living crisis and public service pay has been squeezed for over a decade. Thank you to everyone who has been standing together and using our collective strength to negotiate a pay increase that takes the cost of living into account and stops people’s pay going backwards.
What the PSA's doing to ensure workers' voices are represented in the Government's reforms of Aotearoa's water systems, and what you can do to participate.
In New Zealand, we’re very fortunate to have a public healthcare system. But for too long, it's had some major flaws: our system doesn’t care for all our communities equally, services are often disconnected and it doesn’t look after our healthcare workers – the people who work hard every day to support our health – with fair pay and conditions.
Every year, more than 100,000 New Zealanders are made redundant, laid off, or have to stop working because of a health condition or disability. The Government, Business New Zealand and the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions are proposing a new way of better protecting workers and the economy: a New Zealand Income Insurance scheme.
