Ia Tangata is a review by the Law Commission examining the protections in the Human Rights Act 1993 for people who are transgender, people who are non-binary and people who have an innate variation of sex characteristics.

The Law Commission published an Issues Paper in June 2024 and invited submissions.

Out@PSA's submission:

  • supported better protection for transgender, non-binary and intersex people through amending the Human Rights Act
  • set out some principles that should guide how the Act protects those rights
  • provided views on some of the specific questions and situations set out in the issues paper.
